Oh, and tomorrow I'll be on a new national show, DailyMail TV discussing a hot health topic. Be sure to tune in!
In my first column for AhaLife's The Good Guide, a reader asked, "What anti-aging ingredient should I be looking out for?" Immediately, one ingredient came to mind that topped all of the rest. I’ve been a beauty editor for over ten years now and watched as ingredient trends came and went, but there’s one anti-aging powerhouse that’s remained consistent: retinol. Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A that helps speed up cellular turnover in order to help even out discoloration, boost collagen, rid acne and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Beauty companies have been loyal to the ingredient by placing it in night creams for decades. Read the rest of my response here.
I'm excited to share that I'm now a columnist for AhaLife's The Good Guide. As a beauty and wellness journalist and expert, I partnered with the brand to create an "Ask Jeannine" series and will be answering all of your questions monthly. From skincare ingredients to fitness routines and acaí bowl recipes, bring it on! Check out my interview here and first column in response to the question, "What Anti-Aging Ingredient Should I Be Looking Out For?" Stay tuned for more of "Ask Jeannine!"
Cleansing with a gadget is almost imperative these days. Studies prove that the sonic technology helps to remove dirt and makeup better than simply washing your face with your hands alone. When PopSonic's Leaflet landed on my desk, I was immediately intrigued, because I never saw a facial cleansing device without a brush head. This travel sized gadget is completely made out of silicone. After putting it to the test, I found it was gentle, yet effective and good news – it's available on QVC this Friday, but you can enter now to win one before it launches. Here's the scoop.
Since it's National Hair Loss Awareness Month, let's get real about our hair. Born with extremely fine hair (and not a lot of it), I understand the insecurities that come along with having a sparse coif and often wear tape-in extensions to make my hair appear fuller on TV. We all have our security blankets, right? According to the ADA, an estimated 30 million women in the US are affected by hereditary hair loss. So what do you do if you're finding yourself to be part of this statistic? I have an answer.
EVE LOM's new campaign, "Glow on the Go," encourages even the busiest women to take the time to pamper themselves daily in order to get the skin they crave. We were inspired so we rounded up our top tips on how to make the quest for glowing skin part of your daily routine.
So much goodness has landed on my desk this month that I have to share my favorites with you. While some of them haven't officially hit store shelves yet, you can get your hands on others now.
One of the biggest trends I've notice throughout the past few years is the merger of the beauty and wellness industries and I couldn't be happier about the shift. It's changed not only the content I cover, but also, just like you, my personal shopping habits. We now care, drastically, about what each ingredient is doing for us in our skincare. I love that part of my job is to help you cut through that clutter, which is why I wanted to introduce you to ShortList, a new skincare brand that landed on my desk and is now part of my regimen.
We're used to seeing moisturizing ingredients like shea or cocoa butter in our skin and hair products, but Almond milk is becoming a key ingredient in the beauty industry because of its long list of skin benefits. here are three of our favorite buys embracing the trend.
Whether it's a sultry red, rosé inspired pink or a seasonal neutral, we're sharing our favorite natural lipstick brands in honor of National Lipstick Day on July 29th. Believe it or not, throughout your lifetime, you'll unintentionally consume about seven pounds of lipstick through regular use. Enough of a reason to give these a try.
I love discovering new, indie beauty brands that really cut through the clutter. As a beauty writer for the past ten years, I'm hard to impress, but when I see something different, I have to get my hands on it. I first discovered Tréstique at the Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) product demonstration last month. It was one of the few highlighted indie beauty brands that I stopped to learn about. Now, I have their sticks and crayons in all of my bags.
Last Friday I had the pleasure of sharing my summer travel must haves on NBC's New York Live TV. It's always so much fun to work with Jacque Reid and Joelle Garguilo. I've been a beauty contributor to the show now for over seven years, so it's fun, comfortable and the NY Live team feels like family. These are the items I've been toting around to Key West and the Jersey Shore this summer. The hair sheets smell as good as we say! Click here to watch.
When I first learned about WELL WITHIN skincare, I was impressed, simply because it was so clean. Then, I had the pleasure of meeting Co-founders, Lynne Florio and Renee Tavoularis, and fell in love with their mission. As beauty industry veterans (they both worked for La Prairie for over 20 years), their wellness journeys lead them to take a leap of faith and run with a vision. As an entrepreneur myself, I understand what it takes to bring a passion to life. Here, Lynne (LF) and Renee (RT) talk about starting the company, the best advice they've ever gotten and their definitions of beauty.
A manicure and blowout in 45 minutes? Yes, please! When Studio MB45 invited us in, I couldn’t be more excited to give this star treatment a try. MB45 streamlines your pampering where they give you a chic manicure and hairdo by two trained professionals in one efficient appointment. In the fast-paced setting that is New York City, the idea of simultaneous services is genius.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you might have seen my story about my magical experience on a press trip with Farmacy Beauty. We toured Co-Founder, Mark Veeder's, 7-acre lush property in Forestburgh, NY and then went to the farm where their hero ingredient is harvested in Damascus, PA. You know I've always been a fan of natural skincare, but seeing first hand how the ingredients are nourished for efficacy made me appreciate it even more.
Ever think your skin needs a serious detox? Welcome to the club. Besides slathering yourself in a clay mask, there are other skincare ingredients that promise to soak up excess oil, unclog your pores and balance out your skin. Here are our top five.
Whether you have hyperpigmentation like me, acne scars or fine lines and wrinkles that you'd like to get rid of, one of the fastest ways to get the job done is through laser treatments. Hyperpigmentation has haunted me all of my life and I'm constantly on a quest to brighten my skin. A few years ago, I tried Fraxel, which unless you have severe acne scarring, I would never recommend. It was brutal (see post here) and while my skin looked very clean after the healing, all of my hyperpigmentation eventually came back. Enter PicoSure, a laser that was recently FDA approved for facial resurfacing with seriously, no downtime.
Now that I was able to share the big news, I can tell you how I got that awesome ponytail in the ads. My on-set hairstylist, Bethany Brill told me a tip that changed my life forever. OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but as someone who's constantly in athleisure wear and even sometimes wears a pony on date night, this was a total game changer.
When it comes to makeup, I'm a less is more type of girl. I opt for creams and liquids over powders, because they tend to melt into my skin and give off a more natural look. One product I have a real weakness for is illuminators. Each time I sort through packages that come in every day, I get so excited to try a new highlighter. Here are my three current favorites.
I'm thrilled to finally share what I've been working on in LA! I had the honor of partnering with Coppertone to show you a true day in my life when in California. We shot a video and print ads for People, InStyle and StyleWatch. I couldn't be more excited about the campaign and want to thank you for your readership and support throughout my career. Without you, my readers and followers, these dreams would never come true! Read on to check out the video and pick up June issues of the magazines, which are on stands now.
I was recently invited in for a treatment at a new spa, Bare Beauty NYC in the Flatiron. Walking into the building, I was intrigued as it was like a We Work space for the beauty industry. I walked past hair stylists, colorists and lash extension specialists before finding my way to the Bare Beauty suite – a perfectly set up, tiny room that only fit the necessities for Owner and Esthetician, Wynter Hutchinson. The facial, was one of the best I ever had.
Earlier this week I showcased some of my bikini ready secret weapons on NBC's New York Live. It was so much fun to work with Jacquie Reid and Lauren Scala. Check out my segment on "Body Confidence Boosting Beauty Buys" here.
Friday afternoon, I had the honor of presenting awards at the Cosmetic Executive Women Beauty Awards in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton in NYC. It's always such a pleasure to be part of this event as over 1,000 beauty industry pros attend and it's fun to watch some of my favorite brands get the recognition they deserve. Here's a list of the top beauty launches of 2016. How many have you tried?

With six months until your wedding it's really time to tune into your skin. Personally, I've always been a bit anal about mine and focused on getting rid of hyperpigmentation before my wedding. For some reason many brides jump to injectables right before their wedding. Here's some advice on skin, hair and makeup.
If you're still a year out, you have plenty of time to begin preparing. When I started planning my wedding, I spoke with some of my favorite beauty experts to map out my regimen. starting At one year. we're talking skincare, smile, unwanted hair and makeup.
Welcome to wedding week! 'Tis the season for engagements, showers, bachelorettes and weddings. Whether you're a bride-to-be or know someone getting married, I thought I'd share some beauty advice. Joe and I got married in June of 2014 (already coming up on three years!) and I had my pre-wedding day beauty regimen down to a science. This week, I'll be sharing my bridal beauty countdown posts explaining what to do at 1 year, 6 months, 3 months and 1 month in order to look your absolute best on your big day. Hair extensions are an addiction I just can't shake. It's been years since I've had them in, but guess who fell off the wagon again? Throughout my 10+ year career as a beauty writer, I've tried different brands and methods for adding some fullness (and occasional length) to my otherwise super fine hair – bonds, tape ins and clip ins. At different points in my life, different methods have worked, but the one I keep returning to are Great Lengths tape ins.
