Last Friday I had the pleasure of sharing my summer travel must haves on NBC's New York Live TV. It's always so much fun to work with Jacque Reid and Joelle Garguilo. I've been a beauty contributor to the show now for over seven years, so it's fun, comfortable and the NY Live team feels like family. These are the items I've been toting around to Key West and the Jersey Shore this summer. The hair sheets smell as good as we say! Click here to watch.
When I first learned about WELL WITHIN skincare, I was impressed, simply because it was so clean. Then, I had the pleasure of meeting Co-founders, Lynne Florio and Renee Tavoularis, and fell in love with their mission. As beauty industry veterans (they both worked for La Prairie for over 20 years), their wellness journeys lead them to take a leap of faith and run with a vision. As an entrepreneur myself, I understand what it takes to bring a passion to life. Here, Lynne (LF) and Renee (RT) talk about starting the company, the best advice they've ever gotten and their definitions of beauty.
A manicure and blowout in 45 minutes? Yes, please! When Studio MB45 invited us in, I couldn’t be more excited to give this star treatment a try. MB45 streamlines your pampering where they give you a chic manicure and hairdo by two trained professionals in one efficient appointment. In the fast-paced setting that is New York City, the idea of simultaneous services is genius.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you might have seen my story about my magical experience on a press trip with Farmacy Beauty. We toured Co-Founder, Mark Veeder's, 7-acre lush property in Forestburgh, NY and then went to the farm where their hero ingredient is harvested in Damascus, PA. You know I've always been a fan of natural skincare, but seeing first hand how the ingredients are nourished for efficacy made me appreciate it even more.
Ever think your skin needs a serious detox? Welcome to the club. Besides slathering yourself in a clay mask, there are other skincare ingredients that promise to soak up excess oil, unclog your pores and balance out your skin. Here are our top five.
Whether you have hyperpigmentation like me, acne scars or fine lines and wrinkles that you'd like to get rid of, one of the fastest ways to get the job done is through laser treatments. Hyperpigmentation has haunted me all of my life and I'm constantly on a quest to brighten my skin. A few years ago, I tried Fraxel, which unless you have severe acne scarring, I would never recommend. It was brutal (see post here) and while my skin looked very clean after the healing, all of my hyperpigmentation eventually came back. Enter PicoSure, a laser that was recently FDA approved for facial resurfacing with seriously, no downtime.
Now that I was able to share the big news, I can tell you how I got that awesome ponytail in the ads. My on-set hairstylist, Bethany Brill told me a tip that changed my life forever. OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but as someone who's constantly in athleisure wear and even sometimes wears a pony on date night, this was a total game changer.
When it comes to makeup, I'm a less is more type of girl. I opt for creams and liquids over powders, because they tend to melt into my skin and give off a more natural look. One product I have a real weakness for is illuminators. Each time I sort through packages that come in every day, I get so excited to try a new highlighter. Here are my three current favorites.
I'm thrilled to finally share what I've been working on in LA! I had the honor of partnering with Coppertone to show you a true day in my life when in California. We shot a video and print ads for People, InStyle and StyleWatch. I couldn't be more excited about the campaign and want to thank you for your readership and support throughout my career. Without you, my readers and followers, these dreams would never come true! Read on to check out the video and pick up June issues of the magazines, which are on stands now.
I was recently invited in for a treatment at a new spa, Bare Beauty NYC in the Flatiron. Walking into the building, I was intrigued as it was like a We Work space for the beauty industry. I walked past hair stylists, colorists and lash extension specialists before finding my way to the Bare Beauty suite – a perfectly set up, tiny room that only fit the necessities for Owner and Esthetician, Wynter Hutchinson. The facial, was one of the best I ever had.
Earlier this week I showcased some of my bikini ready secret weapons on NBC's New York Live. It was so much fun to work with Jacquie Reid and Lauren Scala. Check out my segment on "Body Confidence Boosting Beauty Buys" here.
Friday afternoon, I had the honor of presenting awards at the Cosmetic Executive Women Beauty Awards in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton in NYC. It's always such a pleasure to be part of this event as over 1,000 beauty industry pros attend and it's fun to watch some of my favorite brands get the recognition they deserve. Here's a list of the top beauty launches of 2016. How many have you tried?
The month before my wedding, my calendar full of appointments, which is nothing unusual, except for the fact that they were all wedding related. So here we are – bridal beauty countdown – one month! It's time to put the icing on the cake ladies.
When I first got engaged, I spoke to some of my favorite artists to figure out a hair and makeup plan. At this point, you've picked out your dress and now, it's time for hair and makeup trials. Celeb Stylist, Ted Gibson and Makeup Artist, Mai Quynh weigh in.
With six months until your wedding it's really time to tune into your skin. Personally, I've always been a bit anal about mine and focused on getting rid of hyperpigmentation before my wedding. For some reason many brides jump to injectables right before their wedding. Here's some advice on skin, hair and makeup.
If you're still a year out, you have plenty of time to begin preparing. When I started planning my wedding, I spoke with some of my favorite beauty experts to map out my regimen. starting At one year. we're talking skincare, smile, unwanted hair and makeup.
Welcome to wedding week! 'Tis the season for engagements, showers, bachelorettes and weddings. Whether you're a bride-to-be or know someone getting married, I thought I'd share some beauty advice. Joe and I got married in June of 2014 (already coming up on three years!) and I had my pre-wedding day beauty regimen down to a science. This week, I'll be sharing my bridal beauty countdown posts explaining what to do at 1 year, 6 months, 3 months and 1 month in order to look your absolute best on your big day. To start, here's a piece I wrote for PopSugar on "How to Find Your Wedding Day Glam Squad." Enjoy!
Hair extensions are an addiction I just can't shake. It's been years since I've had them in, but guess who fell off the wagon again? Throughout my 10+ year career as a beauty writer, I've tried different brands and methods for adding some fullness (and occasional length) to my otherwise super fine hair – bonds, tape ins and clip ins. At different points in my life, different methods have worked, but the one I keep returning to are Great Lengths tape ins.
Today on NBC's New York Live, I spoke with Jacquie Reid about some of my favorite, affordable eco-friendly beauty buys in honor of Earth day. Check out the segment here.
Recently, I had the privilege of attending a makeup master class hosted by Colgate Optic White with Celebrity Makeup Artist, Mario Dedivanovic. Mario's most notable clientele includes Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Priyanka Chopra, Chrissy Teigan and Christina Aguilera to name a few. Mario disclosed a few of his favorite makeup tips and demoed looks to mirror some of this year's Oscar faves. Inspired by the master class, here are some new beauty tips and tricks.
There's something to be said when I've had a staple in my medicine cabinet for about 10 years. That's right, despite the fact that I try and test everything (especially if it promises to get rid of pimples), I always revert back to this one product – Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. I'm sure if you haven't already fallen in love with it yourself, you know someone who has. As the brand celebrates 50 years in business, I felt it was proper to pay tribute to the one product I can't live without.
Last week I was out in LA shooting a campaign and was fortunate enough to have a glam squad that were not only talented, but also truly understood who I was and it was beyond refreshing. As soon as I walked into the trailer for hair and makeup, they both asked about my likes and dislikes and really listened in order to create my look. For the record – likes include bangs, texture and clean makeup; dislikes are slick hair and anything pink on my face). It was a fitness inspired shoot so a texturized pony and minimal makeup were brought to life and I couldn't have felt any more like myself, which is important when doing spokesperson work.
Lately, I've been attempting to clean up my skincare regimen (yes, again). You know I'm all about using chemicals in my skincare, but I find that some all natural products are just as efficacious. You guys were excited the last time I covered my favorite natural beauty buys on NBC, so here's an update.
After years of interviewing Joanna Vargas and hearing about her celebrity-coveted skincare studio, I finally had the chance to check it out for myself. When asked what type of facial I wanted to try, the first one that came to my mind was her famous Triple Crown Facial, which uses microcurrent to help depuff and firm the skin. It's known by celebs and the beauty industry as a workout for your face and most A-Listers like Julianne Moore, Naomi Watts, and Zac Posen to name a few, frequent the her services before big events.
A few weeks ago, Amazon came to my apartment to film a few segments for their show Style Code Live. The shoot was so much fun and one of my beauty tips aired last night. I share my absolute favorite lipstick and dish on how to make your lip look last. Check it out!
While our vanities are all loaded with face masks, sometimes it's best to keep things simple and DIY one with fresh ingredients that are already stocked in our kitchen. Here are some simple recipes to help rid blackheads, acne and hydrate. Enjoy!
Last September I featured the Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System on NBC's New York Live as a must have beauty gadget and now (see post), I'm excited to announce that they'll be on QVC next week. As you can imagine, my beauty closet and vanity are filled with all kinds of gadgets and gizmos with strong promises. Some work quickly to exfoliate and others, the anti-aging ones, demand consistent use in order to see real results. This is one of them and the proof is in the pudding.
Each season, I create a trend report based off of what I saw backstage at the fashion shows and bring it to you live on NBC. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of working with Jacquie Reid and Carolina Bermudez (of KTU). We talked bold lips, undone waves, metallic nails and more. You can check out my segment here.
Many of you have been writing in asking about the latest injectables to hit the market. Xeomin vs. Botox, Restylan, Sculptra, Radiesse... etc. While I haven't tried fillers myself, I do have the answers for you thanks to Dr. Terrence Keaney, a board-certified dermatologist and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at The George Washington University in Washington D.C.
I've recently fallen in love with three makeup products that make my complexion look perhaps the best it's ever looked (no joke) – clear, bright and glowing.
